Rosemary December 2004 saw Rosemary finish recording their first EP with producer Jim Riley at his Ranscombe studios in Rochester. For those few who have heard it, it was received staggeringly well. But its unlikely you would have - the thing is, the world of Rosemary is shrouded in secrecy; there is no official biography, they’ve sought no press, taken very few photos and only recently been forced to set up a website out of necessity. These lads, Tim Hill (Vocals & Bass), Martin Brett (Vocals & Guitar) and Jon Chamberlain (Drums) are a little bit special – with their music that is – everything else comes somewhere between secondary and irrelevance for them. Categorising their style causes more problems for band and listener alike, tender melodies of beauty and vision in such songs as ‘So, Tell Me What Troubles You?’ or ‘Benjamin’s Ego’ contrast with urban restlessness in the likes of ‘Turning Blue’ and ‘Off The Tracks’. Their classic, yet modern song writing and harmonies give the trio a new feel and an exciting edge. One thing remains clear though, and that is their overwhelming sense of ‘Englishness’ - comparable to that of the The Jam, Joy Division or the Kinks – but Rosemary are a band for now; a band for England. Having already played with the likes of The Others, Dogs, Cherubs, the Delaners and the Mardous, 2005 has seen the boys return to Rochester to record their eagerly anticipated second EP. After recently finishing the last two ‘Buff Medways’ albums, experienced producer Jim Riley was back alongside them and this new CD, along with the previously released EP, have secured the boys a series of gigs across London and Kent. They are soon to be appearing at such venues as The Metro Club, Garage, Infinity, The Pleasure Unit, and The Tap’N’Tin, (Chatham). Without any promotion and simply equipped with an arsenal of quality material, a buzz is emerging… and Rosemary are comfortably sailing the wave. “To use the well worn term ‘retro’ would be totally incorrect, likewise, ‘indie’ would be equally wrong. But, Rosemary have a brave and exciting, dare I say new sound.” - Toxic Pete – www.toxicpete.co.ukCheck out: www.RosemaryMusic.co.uk
